Airbnb Spokesman to Housing Advocates: Cut the Crap!
Airbnb has come under criticism for allowing commercial operators to run illegal hotels in residential neighborhoods by skirting zoning laws and industry regulations, and for exacerbating affordable housing shortages. When asked about the regulatory environment on commercial operators using the platform, Airbnb Head of Global Policy Chris Lehane claimed that some cities and states like Florida are “affirmatively seeking” more of these commercial operators. Former Philadelphia Mayor and current Airbnb policy adviser Michael Nutter said that it’s “nonsense” that the company is impacting affordable housing crises, that people need to “cut the crap.” Sponsored by American Family Voices for AirbnbWatch.org.
